Why I am Not Renewing on Wordpress

First, for weeks now I have not been able to read or write on my site without interruptions from WordPress with messages requesting usage of space on my drive.

These messages blocked any effective use of the site; they come and go unpredictably and when they appear I have to leave the site hoping that they will stay away the next time I visit, but those occasions are few.  If I press ‘Allow’ they come back asking for more space each time.   If I press ‘Don’t Allow’ they just kept sending the messages, effectively blocking any use of the site.  The thugs are extortionists!

Consequently some posts take a long time to write, according to when WordPress would allow it.

Second, I have not been able to ‘like’ some bloggers’ posts.  Again occasionally they stop blocking me from doing so but it’s unpredictable.

Third, I must log in separately each time I want to post a comment.  This happens often.

Fourth, I thought paying extra money for a premium site means no advertisements but no, WordPress advertises other bloggers’ posts when my readers log on to mine.  I don’t know how much people pay WordPress to do this but I know that they are not there due to their merit.

I suggest readers do not visit these advertised sites.  I do not recommend them.

Since WP insists on inserting items on my page whether it be pop-ups or advertisements, I feel that it would be foolish to pay for a premium account.

Time to  go.  I’m on my way.

So sorry Mary. This is the first I’ve heard of such a problem. I hope you will find a wayto let us know when your book comes out. You have really helped me learn in my appreciation of Chinese poetry and in trying to do translation. You have been a great teacher, thank you so much.

Thank you for those words, Angela. My premium account expires in 6 hours but I believe the site will go on without the benefits which is worthless to me under the circumstances. When my book is out I will put a notice on the site. My energy now goes to that project so I will not be blogging anymore.

  4. I believe you have a virus that has infected your WordPress account. This happens sometimes when I click on something through Facebook. There is no way to get out of the pop-up except to close Facebook and wait an hour or so. It also happens on an Australian site where I follow the news. Hmmm. Could it be an Australian hacker? Mary, please let us know when your poetry book comes out. I’d love to have it. I will miss your posts.

Thank you, Sarah. Derrick Knight, a blogger on WP in the UK, tells me he encounters that problem and he just press Allow. WP told me that it is just routine and there is no harm in clicking ‘Allow’. Sounds like it happens to everyone, just that on Safari the users are notified of it. Other browsers just talk to WP undercover. However since the pop-ups asks for more space each time it returns, I am unwilling to do so.

I am philosophical. I came to WP because of a troll on another forum and now I will go elsewhere. The disruptions caused by internet idiots are just temporary and insignificant. I will be working on my book offline and it may be years before it will be published, even without pop-up interruptions.

Have you contacted WP about this? It seems their customer service should be able to offer a solution ~ I worry this is something non-WP originated, as it seems very strange. Sorry to hear of this issue, things like this are such a pain.

Yes, I have. The things they suggested didn’t work. Anyway I am philosophical and will take it as a sign to change direction. Other people are having the problem too. WP told me; they wanted to know if I had found a solution. Very funny.
